In-Depth Information
If I ended up in Linda Twigg's room, in the poker room, I tried to melt into the
background.

Shewasveryartist-friendly,alwaysinterestedinandtakinggoodcareofHerbert
Huncke, and she was good friends with Richard Bernstein. She was really in-
trigued and enamored of the whole literary-artistic world, very well read and in-
teresting.
Jerry [Poynton] and I had a party there because we had written a screenplay
after we did The Burning Ghat. We based the script on Huncke, but in the script
we turned him into an American Indian conman. We were trying to draw atten-
tion to the script, so we had a party at the Chelsea in Linda's room during the
IndependentFilmProject.WehadLindamakeabunchofpokerchipsupwiththe
name of the screenplay on it: “Chicago Ghost Dance.” We handed them around
at the Angelika to try to get people to show up for the party and get them interes-
ted in the script.

kind of fun to have Linda Twigg's poker chips.
Linda really knew how to make people feel very special and welcome. She
was a real hostess! Especially if you had this funky, underground fame or notori-
ety. She loved that.
