All these older Chelsea people keep passing away. There's one woman who did
all these slides of her husband's art—she just passed away this year. She was

That'sthethingabouttheChelsea.Alotofthepeoplewhoarenewhere,they
weren't here when I first came here, there was an entire set of other people.
Nowadays young people are very different. They're very obedient, and all
they worry about is getting a good job, and they do everything their parents say.
America is still as puritanical as could be.

When Paul Volmer moved out of the Chelsea, he went to North Kingstown,
Rhode Island, where he lives now. And get this -they had some seaside down-

aged to get the people in the city together and they fought against the federal
government business conglomerate. This is regular old Paul, the bellman!
And they won! Paul and his people beat the government and these big busi-
nessmen! Because of this success, some local people even came to Paul and
asked him to run for City Council of North Kingstown. Paul—the Chelsea bell-
man! That's the icing on the cake!

I remember telling Stanley last fall—I was distracting him from his ever-present
work. I don't remember what we were talking about, but he said, disgruntled,
“But I made this place!”
