In-Depth Information
You could feel stuff like ghosts at the hotel. It was creepy because of all the
people who had died in there. It kind of had a glamor for death. But I was more

There were two elevators—one of them would always stop on the first floor, no
matter what you pushed. The first floor was where Edie Sedgwick had lived and

ator would always open there on its own. It was creepy, but in a good way. They
were always trying to fix it, and it never got fixed.

There are a lot of interesting ghost stories, but I've never experienced any ghosts
here. One of the things that I've learned is that people who come here for the
first time, and don't really know anything about the Chelsea, often have unusual
experiences or unusual dreams. They'll see something—or something will visit
them. There's a force here, a presence.

down on my creaky bed for a brief nap before my 1:30 interview with Tim Sullivan. Usu-
ally, with such little naps, I don't actually fall asleep, but rather settle into a reverie some-
where between waking and sleeping. After five or ten minutes, I'm completely refreshed.
This time, though, I was exhausted. I fell like a brick into solid sleep. Suddenly I felt a
firm, distinct tap on my right shoulder, as if by someone's finger. Not aggressive, just de-
termined. I woke up and turned to see what time it was: 1:25.
A Chelsea spirit, reminding me of my appointment?
