these really, really skinny lines of heroin all the time. So he would sit there con-
ducting drug deals all day, and never leave his chair. Eventually he got edema
on his legs, just from sitting still all day doing small lines of heroin! All these
different kinds of people parading through to buy this or that kind of drug, and
between customers, he'd be doing his own drugs.
Eventually,aNewYorkCitySWATteamcamethroughthelobbylookingfor
Frank. They pulled a gun on the phone operator at the lobby desk. Apparently a
lot of the phone operators in the lobby were being paid off by the drug dealers.
If the cops came into the hotel, the operators downstairs would phone the drug
dealers upstairs and tell them to dump everything down the toilet.
But this time when the cops came, they pulled a gun on the operator herself.
The rest of the cops rushed past her upstairs and arrested Frank. He got thrown
out of the hotel. Apparently, at that point he didn't have a criminal record at all,
sohedidn'tgotoprison.Hehadbeendealingdrugsforyearsandhadneverbeen
busted.
But apparently he finally did get busted again just a couple of years ago. I
suppose it was probably the best thing that ever happened to him, getting busted.
He needed to get out of that chair!
I guess Frank really wasn't that bad a guy. After all, he was filling a need.
Frank's a survivor. Some people are survivors.
