Schizo idolized Iggy Pop. So she got a bunch of musicians together—including
myself—butIonlydidroadieworkforthem—anddidabunchofgigsatCBGBs.
They were an Iggy Pop cover band. She did all these songs like “Now I Wanna
be Your Dog,” all of Iggy's worst stuff.
They were trying to write songs, and they even got Dee Dee to work with
themonsomesongs.AndIthinktheyactuallyrecordedthem—Umbertowasgo-
ing to be their big promoter. Umberto ended up smoking crack and hanging out
with some trannie and doing the whole crack scene.
They were also friends with Nina Hagen. Nina Hagen used to come by the
hotel all the time and hang out with Dee Dee. They wrote a couple of songs to-
gether.
So for about five years, Umberto and Schizo were going to be big rock stars
living at the Chelsea Hotel. Then they finally ended up owing Stanley so much
money that they had to leave. They went out to West Hollywood, and that's the
last I've heard of them.

I go for that kind of Bohemian thing. She had spirit! One time I crossed paths
with her when she and her group were just leaving a recording studio. So we had
this little camaraderie because we'd see each other at the Chelsea, and we recor-
ded at the same recording studio. I thought she was pretty neat looking. She sort
of had a thing going like Dee Snyder, that guy from Twisted Sister. She looked
like him but with henna-colored hair, all curly and frizzy and bushy. She must
have hennaed her poodles too. What a sight!
When they were walking down the street, you knew they were going into
the Chelsea! She and Umberto had a very serious type vibration. They weren't
clowns, even though she looked clownish. And Umberto would have the colored
hair and wear neon chartreuse clothes, and just be “Crash!” He'd be a billboard.
