that Christine had died in her bathtub. The tub, of course, had been full of water,
and Christine had been soaking in there dead for all this time, like two weeks!
Parked out in front of the hotel for that entire day was this old red van that said
“Coroner” on the side. It took the coroner's people a whole day to get Christine
out of the bathtub.
Now here's Stanley for you. The very next day, after Christine's body was
found, I was over at Alan's place. Here came Stanley walking around the corner.
He was showing Christine's room to these two college-looking girls.
Stanley said, with a flourish, like he's showing them the finest apartment in
New York, “And yes, this room here has its own private bathroom!”
Stanley had Christine's room ready to rent the very next day! I remember
thinking, “Man, that room has got to sit for a month or so before the smell goes
away.” And on top of that, he was using the bathroom as a selling point! The
same bathroom Christine had been steeping in for who knows how long!
That's what Stanley would do. Another time, a girl rented 923. When she
checked in, she had cancer. They used to call it “checking in to check out.” So

have to pay for that phone call! But then she slit her wrists and got blood all over
the room, the walls and the carpet. Then she jumped out the window from the

me that he was walking out the front door right when it happened. Slam! She hit
a taxi cab and then bounced onto the street. I guess Tim Sullivan said she hit a
manhole cover instead of a taxi cab, but either way, she was flat as a pancake.
They left her there for hours.

was trying to quit using drugs, and he had just worked up the courage to go out after stay-
ing locked in his room for several days. What had happened was that a woman had thrown
herself from a window on the 9th floor. The operator had called her and said she had to
check out, and she had said, 'I'll be right down.' And it was right at that moment that Dee
Dee stepped out of the hotel.” 93
