the established mission of the organization's leaders, as shown in Figure 6-3.

Within the context of data fluency, shared understanding is based on people
knowing what data means and how it is used. The previous section touched
on the importance of clearly defining key metrics, the challenges that arise
when people have different definitions for data, and how these differences
can derail progress. Following are the primary areas in which shared under-
standing can help foster a data fluent culture:
