People and places you should get to know
If you need help with SAP HANA, here are some people and places that will prove invaluable.
Official sites
The following are a list of important sites, which will prove useful:
Ê Homepage : http://www.sap.com/solutions/technology/in-memory-computing-
platform/hana/overview/index.epx . There's a lot of marketing material, but this is
where it all starts in the SAP HANA world.
Ê SAP's user review of SAP HANA : http://www.sap.com/solutions/technology/in-
memory-computing-platform/reviews/index.epx . Again, beware the marketing
skew to the articles (this is a sap.com page after all), but gives good insight into the
different business areas in which clients are using SAP HANA.
Ê Manual and documentation : http://help.sap.com/hana_appliance/ . Gives
release notes to the latest versions of the system, including new features and bug
fixes. Additionally, most of the system manuals are available for download here.
Ê SapHana minisite : https://www.saphana.com/community/blogs . This site is
SAP's community-facing minisite dedicated to the SAP HANA product, with blogs,
user testimonials, forums, documentation, use-cases, and so on. It contains a wealth
of information.
Ê Knowledge base : http://service.sap.com/notes . SAP notes on all aspects of the
ERP, BW, and HANA products can be found here. Search for HANA. If you think you've
found a bug, or the system is behaving strangely, then there's likely a note on your
problem on this site. Phrasing your question right to find the note can sometimes be
tricky. You'll need a SAP Service Marketplace login (S-user) to use this site.
Articles and tutorials
The following are a list of important tutorial sites, which will prove useful:
Ê The Wikipedia article explaining column-based databases : http://en.wikipedia.
org/wiki/Column-oriented_DBMS . This article is a great place to start to get a better
understanding of the underlying data storage technology used in SAP HANA, and why
it brings increased performance for reporting.
Ê SCN developer center : http://scn.sap.com/community/developer-center/hana .
Contains downloads, tutorials, and articles aimed at developers on SAP's HANA
platform, including direct download links to PDF versions of the different
developer manuals.
