Knole is the largest private house in England. It is a calendar house with, allegedly, 365
rooms, 52 staircases and 7 courtyards. Despite its history and direct connections to Henry
VIII and Elizabeth I, and its overwhelming size (the structure covers 4 acres), present day
Knole is best known for its beautiful 17 th century furniture collection.
