The house's exquisite murals and painted ceilings were created by John Dibblee Crace in
the late 19 th century. The Red Library displays many of the 40,000 volumes in the house.
Longleat offers perhaps the best example of an Elizabethan Great Hall remaining in Eng-
land today. One macbre artifact on exhibit — the bloodstained vest worn by King Charles
I at his execution in 1649.
And for those so inclined, a visit to Longleat can include amusement rides and a drive
through the Safari Park.
