It's around this point in the crossing that you'll came across a number of fresh faces to the
cruising fleet, which will have coalesced into a tight-knit group. The “newcomers” are
sailors sailing southwest from North America via Hawaii and Palmyra, and who knows?
You might just pick up another buddy boat or two.
Ultimately, it seems that all roads in the Central Pacific lead to Rome - er, Tonga. The
Vava'u group is a regular cruiser's Mecca, where you'll find cruisers' hang-outs, basic
services, as well as chit-chat about the route ahead. But there's more to Tonga than just
