Safety Note
Goggles must be worn at all times during this
experiment. Work carefully with liquids under pressure, which may cause
unintended spraying. please review and follow the safety guidelines at
the beginning of this volume.
Procedure
1. Use the electronic balance to find the mass of a microscale gas
syringe with a cap in grams (g). Record this mass on the data table.
2. Remove the plunger from the syringe, be sure that the cap is in
place, invert the syringe, and slowly pour about 15 to 20 milliliters
(ml) of the cold carbonated drink into the syringe. Try to avoid
releasing gas bubbles as you pour.
3. Replace the plunger into the end of the syringe so that the rubber
stopper is just inside of the bottom rim.
4. Slowly turn the syringe so that the tip is facing upward and carefully
remove the cap.
