Safety Note
Goggles must be worn at all times during this
experiment. perform the experiment in a well-ventilated area. please
review and follow the safety guidelines at the beginning of this volume.
Procedure
1. Prepare the five silica-coated thin layer chromatography plates. To
do so:
a. Using a ruler, measure 1 centimeter (cm) from the bottom of each
plate and draw a straight line across the plate in pencil, as shown
in Figure 2. Draw the lines on the white surface of the plate and
be careful not to scratch the surface.
b. Label the bottom of each plate under the line, in pencil, with
the analgesic used: “aspirin,” “acetaminophen,” “caffeine,”
“ibuprofen,” or “unknown.”
