Hammerfest Kirke CHURCH
Offline map Google map (Kirkegata 33; 7.15am-3pm Mon-Fri, 11am-3pm Sat,
noon-1pm Sun mid-Jun-mid-Aug) Behind the altar of Hammerfest's contemporary
church, consecrated in 1961, the glorious stained-glass window positively glows in the
summer sun. The wooden frieze along the organ gallery depicts highlights of the town's
history. The chapel in the cemetery across the street is the only building in town to have
survived WWII.
St Michaels Catholic Church CHURCH
Offline map Google map (cnr Strandgata & Mellomgata) With a strong claim to be the
world's most northerly Catholic church, St Michaels, serving a congregation of barely 90
souls, is immediately recognisable by the striking mosaic of the eponymous saint that ex-

The three spurs of this secluded hotel, overlooking the town, look decidedly barrackslike
from the outside and with good reason; it was originally built as living quarters for sum-
mertime fishwives from Finland who worked in the large Findus processing factory. Long
ago converted to a friendly, cosy hotel, it's a good option with solarium and free sauna.
