Exhibits include a complete control tower and hands-on demonstrations. The affiliated
Norwegian Air Force Museum has plenty of examples of historic military and civilian air-
craft from the Tiger Moth to the U2 spy plane (the ill-fated US plane that was shot down
overthe Soviet Union in1960,creating amajor diplomatic incident, was enroute fromPe-
shawar in Pakistan to Bodø). Children and kids-at-heart will thrill and shudder at the small
simulator, which, for an extra charge, takes you on some pretty harrowing virtual flights,
including piloting a fighter jet. Head south along Bankgata, then 750m eastwards along
Olav V gata.

Recounting the short history of Bodø, this
little gem of a museum has a cheerily entertaining and informative 25-minute film with
English subtitles on the town's development. Museum highlights include a mock-up of a
fisherman's
rorbu
, a section on Sami culture complete with sod hut, realia relating to the
town's fishing heritage and a small hoard of 9th-century Viking treasure.

This striking structure, completed in 1956, has a soaring, freestanding tower and spire.
Shaped like an inverted ship's hull, the walls of its nave are clad with tufty, multicoloured
tapestries and there's a fine stained-glass window.
