train shed into an artisan-scale candle factory where they fashion around 15 tonnes of
prime-quality paraffin wax each year into pumpkins and peppers, boots, cats, flowers, and
candles all colours of the rainbow.
Rock City ROCK & ROLL MUSEUM
( www.rockcity.no , in Norwegian) The large white cube under construction when we last
visited is a temple to rock and roll - and homage to the disproportionately large numbers
of artists from Namsos who have made it big on the Scandinavian popular-music scene.
Norsk Sagbruksmuseum FORESTRY MUSEUM
(Spillumsvika; adult/child Nkr40/free; 9am-4pm Sun-Fri mid-Jun-mid-Aug,
9am-3pm Mon-Fri rest of yr) If you're interested in wood chopping and chipping, take a
guided tour around this tribute to an important local industry. Over the bridge 4km east of
town, it commemorates Norway's first steam-powered sawmill (1853).
Namdalsmuseet FOLK MUSEUM
( 74 27 40 72; Kjærlighetstien 1; adult/child Nkr40/free; noon-4pm Tue-Sun
mid-Jun-mid-Aug) Namdal Museum has displays on local history, including the typical
wooden sailing boats of the area, and is - hold on to your hat - 'Norway's only museum
featuring exhibits of hospital equipment presented in chronological order'.
Activities
Bjørumsklumpen VIEWPOINT
An easy scenic 20-minute walk up Kirkegata from the centre will take you to the lookout
atop the prominent loaf-shaped rock (114m) with good views over Namsfjorden, the town
and its environs. About a third of the way up, a sign identifies a track leading to some im-
pressive WWII Nazi bunkers hewn from solid rock.
