and 35 sweating, snoring others but the advantages outweigh the downside at this convivi-
al, excellent-value place, run by the Studentersamfundet. There's free internet access, wi-fi
andluggagestorage,frequentlivemusicandcurfewisanuglyword.Its Edgar Café serves
inexpensivemeals,chocolatecakethatmorethanonereaderswearsbyandbeer(especially
cheap during bi-weekly backpacker evenings). Should you hear strange shufflings, it's just
the ghost of one S Møller, a student who mysteriously disappeared in the 1930s.
Flakk Camping CAMPGROUND €

outdoor bathroom Nkr400-550; May-Aug) Sitting right beside Trondheimfjord
(there's minimal disturbance from the nearby ferry point), this welcoming campground is
about 10km from the city centre. Take Rv715 from Trondheim.
Eating
Trondheim has plenty of lovely cafes for a light meal, coffee and cakes. Some stay open at
nightandturnintolivelypubs.Forself-caterers,there'sagrandlittleopen-airfruitandveg
market on Torvet each morning.
Vertshuset Tavern TRADITIONAL NORWEGIAN €€€

heim, this historic (1739) tavern was lifted and transported, every last plank of it, to the
Sverresborg Trøndelag Folkemuseum on the outskirts of town. Tuck into its rotating spe-
cials of traditional Norwegian fare or just peck at waffles with coffee in one of its 16 tiny
rooms, each low-beamed, with sloping floors, candlesticks, cast-iron stoves and lacy table-
cloths.
