Skjerneset Bryggecamping ( 71 51 18 94; www.skjerneset.no ; per person/
site Nkr30/90, cabins Nkr600-850, d with shared bathroom Nkr390, tr with
bathroom Nkr550) is a hyperfriendly place, right beside the sea at Sveggevika, west
of Bremsnes. The owners, themselves former commercial fisherfolk, organise deep-
sea trips in their own boat, or you can hire a motor boat and sling your own line.
Rooms are in a former fish warehouse, which houses a fascinating family museum
on the top floor.
Håholmen Havstuer ( 71 51 72 50; www.haholmen.no ; s/d Nkr910/1330) is
a former fishing station on an offshore islet north of the middle of the archipelago. Its
49 rooms, scattered around the renovated complex, are simply and tastefully fur-
nished in rustic style. Ytterbrugga , its restaurant, serves the freshest of fish. To
transport you there, a motor boat (Nkr50 return) makes the five-minute sea journey,
leaving the roadside car park on the hour, between 11am and 9pm, late June to mid-
August.
If you're travelling under your own steam, Eide Auto (90 77 30 63) buses
(Nkr130, 2¼ hours, two to six daily) link Molde and Kristiansund year-round, via the
coastal route and Atlanterhavsveien.
Around Molde
ONA
The beautiful outer islet of Ona, with its bare rocky landscapes and picturesque lighthouse,
is still home to an offshore fishing community. It makes a popular day trip from Molde.
En route, WWII buffs may want to stop off at Gossen Krigsminnesamling (adult/child
Nkr40/20; noon-5pm Tue-Sun late Jun-early Aug) , a former Nazi wartime airstrip
builtbyRussianPOWsonthelowislandofGossen.Theabandonedsummer-housevillage
of Bjørnsund also warrants a brief stop.
From Molde, you can visit Ona by public transport in a day. Take the 8am bus 561 to
the ferry point at Småge. From here, it's a gorgeous trip by the 9.35am ferry, which stops
at three islands en route and docks at Ona at 11.10am. You could scurry around and leave
by the noon ferry. Better to take the 3.35pm boat from Ona, then the 5.10pm linking bus in
Småge to reach Molde at 6.35pm. If you have wheels, leave your vehicle in Småge (it's an
encumbrance on the island) and hop on the ferry there.
