has oodles of charm. An ex-warehouse and protected building - just look at the wonder-
fuloldbeams they've preserved -it combines tradition with strictly contemporary comfort
and style. Bedroom furnishings are of light pine, contrasting with the warm-brown draper-
iesandwhitestofwhitesheets,whilebathrooms,behindtheirsmoked-glasswalls,havethe
latest fittings. Rooms overlooking the harbour carry a Nkr200 supplement. For extra char-
acter take room 47, once the Molja lighthouse, or 502, a junior suite at roof level with the
original winch support above you. Breakfast is taken in its Maki restaurant, whose broad
picture windows give onto the port.

This wonderful waterfront option occupies a converted fish ware-
house, artfully decorated with former tools and equipment. Rates include a light evening
meal and free waffles throughout the day. There's a sauna, free to guests, too.

This fine place, Ålesund's oldest hotel, was the first to be con-
structed after the 1904 fire. With touches and flourishes of art nouveau - the furniture is
original and in keeping with this theme, and even the lobby flatscreen TV seems to blend
in - it exudes style and confidence.
