MIDNIGHT SUN MARATHON
A midnight marathon could only happen in Norway, and Tromsø is the place to try the
world's northernmost 42km road race ( Click here ). It's held in June and is possibly the
only marathon in the world where the participants are still straggling in at 5am.
EXTREME SPORTS FESTIVAL
Adventure junkies from across the world converge on Voss ( Click here ) in late June for a
week of skydiving, paragliding, parasailing and base jumping; local and international mu-
sic acts keep the energy flowing.
July
July is the peak tourist season throughout most of Norway with the year's best weath-
er and cheapest prices for hotels. Tourist sights can be crowded and we strongly re-
commend advance reservations for accommodation.
KONGSBERG JAZZ FESTIVAL
Kongsberg'sJazzFestival( Clickhere ),Norway'ssecondlargest,beginsinearlyJuly,lasts
four days and pulls in some of the biggest international names. As it precedes the Molde-
jazz festival, this is a great season for jazz-lovers.
MOUNTAIN FESTIVAL
In early July, Ã…ndalsnes hosts what could be northern Europe's largest gathering of moun-
taineers and rock-climbers, swapping stories and inching their way up the sheer cliffs. The
Norsk Fjellfestival ( Click here ) has a full program of folk events to liven up the
evenings.
ALL THINGS AQUATIC
In the second week of July, Fredrikstad takes to the water with its Glomma Festival ( Click
here ), with bathtub regattas for seafaring wannabes and veteran sailing ship exhibitions.
There are also ritual duels and concerts.
