HARDANGERFJORD
Running from the Atlantic to the steep wall of central Norway's Hardangervidda Plateau,
Hardangerfjord is classic Norwegian fjord country. There are many beautiful corners, al-
though our pick would probably be Eidfjord, Ulvik and Utne, while Folgefonna National
Park offers glacier walks and top-level hiking. For details about exploring Hardangerfjord

Norheimsund
POP 2132
Quiet little Norheimsund serves as the gateway to Hardangerfjord. There are more beautiful
places further into the fjord network, but it's a pretty little town nonetheless and makes for
a pleasant introduction to what lies ahead. Ferries from here head to Eidfjord, making it a
useful staging post if you're travelling on public transport.

Steinsdalfossen WATERFALL
Just 1km west of Norheimsund along Rv7, this 50m-high waterfall is a far cry from Nor-
way's highest, but it does offer the chance to walk behind the water. It can get overcrowded
with tour buses in summer; inexplicably, this is one of the most visited natural sites in Nor-
way.
