Camping.
Eating
Bergen is the sort of place where international trends make their mark (sushi and tapas are
all the rage and have been for some years), but you'll also find bastions of Norwegian tra-
dition.
Pingvinen BAR, RESTAURANT €

town Norwegian cooking, and with a delightfully informal ambience, Pingvinen is one
of our favourite restaurants in Bergen. It's the sort of place where Norwegians come for
meals their mothers and grandparents used to cook, and although the menu changes regu-
larly, there are usually fish-cake sandwiches, reindeer, fish pie, whale, salmon, lamb shank
and, our favourite: traditional Norwegian meatballs served with mushy peas and wild-
Norwegian-berry jam. The kitchen usually closes around 9pm, whereafter there are snacks
until closing time, as it becomes a cool bar.
