standing the history of this seafaring city. It features models of ships from Viking times to
the present and exhibits that trace Norway's maritime history.
Bergen Aquarium AQUARIUM

Apr) At the end of the Nordnes Peninsula, this aquarium has a big outdoor tank with seals
and penguins, as well as 70 indoor tanks, snakes, crocodiles and a shark tunnel, which
opened in 2010. You'll never forget the lovable steinbit, the hideous anglerfish or the
school of herring, which seems to function as a single entity. There are also penguin and
seal feedings throughout the day. On foot, you can get there from Torget in 20 minutes;
alternatively, take the Vågen ferry ( Click here ) or bus 11.
Leprosy Museum LEPROSY MUSEUM

May) Forsomethingabitdifferent,visitthisunusualmuseum.Althoughmostofthebuild-
ings at St George's Hospital date from the 19th century, in medieval times the site served
as a leprosarium. Exhibits detail Norway's contributions to leprosy research, including the
work of Dr Armauer Hansen, who discovered the leprosy bacillus in Bergen in 1873 and
gave his name to Hansen's disease, the modern name for leprosy.
Gamle Bergen REGIONAL FOLK MUSEUM

free; hourly tours 10am-5pm early May-Aug) The open-air Old Bergen Museum,
4km north of the city centre, boasts a fine collection of 35 structures from the 18th and
19th centuries. A 30-minute walk from Torget will get you there, or take bus 20, 23 or 24.
