Keeping Costs Down
The prices for hotels (and just about everything else) in Norway can be a real shock
to the system, but there are some strategies for keeping travel costs at a reasonable
level. The period from mid-June to mid-August is the best time to visit the country:
although the crowds can be off-putting, hotel prices can be 40% less than for the rest
of the year. In most accommodation types, a buffet breakfast is included in the room
price - turn breakfast into your main meal of the day - while in many restaurants,
discounted lunchtime specials also enable you to eat well without spending too
much. Picking up your rental car in neighbouring Sweden can also reduce costs,
while those travelling by train should plan ahead and book online for heavily dis-
counted minipris fares.
