& Sun mid-Jun-mid-Aug, shorter hr rest of yr) Acting as the visitors centre for Jotun-
heimen National Park, this worthwhile mountain museum contains mountaineering mem-
orabilia, exhibits on natural history (the woolly mammoth is a highlight) and cultural and
industrial activity in the Norwegian mountains. There's also an excellent 10-minute moun-
tain slide show and, upstairs, a scale model of the park.
Presthaugen Open-Air Museum REGIONAL FOLK
MUSEUM
(Presthaugen Bygde-museum; www.gudbrandsdalsmusea.no ; 11am-4pm Jul-mid-
Aug) Behind the mountain museum, this museum is a collection of 19th-century farm
buildings,several stabbur (elevated storehouses), anoldhut(it'sclaimed thatStOlavslept
here) and a summer mountain dairy.
Activities
The tourist office has details of hikes, glacier walks and ice-climbing in Jotunheimen Na-
tional Park.
Hiking
Although most of the serious trekking takes place in neighbouring Jotunheimen National
Park, there are several hiking trails closer to town; ask the tourist office for maps, direc-
tions and its terrific Walks in Lom pamphlet, which has a map and detailed route descrip-
tions.
