Ringebu Stave Church & Around STAVE CHURCH &
VICARAGE
(Ringebu Stavkyrkje; www.stavechurch.no ; adult/child Nkr40/20; 8am-8pm mid-
Jun-mid-Aug, 9am-5pm late May-mid-Jun & mid-end Aug) A church has existed on
this site since the arrival of Christianity in the 11th century. The current version, which re-
mainsthelocalparishchurch,datesfromaround1220,butwasrestoredinthe17thcentury
when the distinctive red tower was attached. Inside, there's a statue of St Laurence dating
from around 1250 as well as some crude runic inscriptions. Entrance to the grounds is free
and the gate is open year-round. The church is around 2km south of town, signposted off
the E6. It hosts occasional concerts of Norwegian folk music in summer.
Some 300m beyond the church to the east is Ringebu Samlingene (adult/child Nkr40/
20, combined ticket with Ringebu Stave Church Nkr60/30; 11am-5pm Tue-Sun
mid-Jun-mid-Aug) .It'shousedinbuildingsdatingfrom1743,andservedasthevicarage
until 1991.

Getting There & Away
Bus Nor-Way Bussekspress bus routes between Oslo (Nkr385, 3½ hours, three daily) and
the western fjords. Cheaper Lavprisekspressen buses (from Nkr149) to Oslo or Trondheim
pass through one or two times a day.
