In-Depth Information
( 72 40 80 00; www.roroshotell.no ; An Magrit veien 10; s/d from Nkr950/1150) This
167-room colossus at the top end of town has well- appointed rooms with a touch more
character than most larger hotels (it styles itself as a mountain hotel), at least in the public
areas, but far less than the smaller Røros hotels.
Eating
Opening hours for the following places are much reduced in winter.
Vertshuset Røros TRADITIONAL NORWEGIAN €€
( 72 41 24 11; Kjerkgata 34; lunch mains Nkr75-145, dinner mains Nkr268-345)
Lunch dishes here include fairly standard soup, sandwiches and burgers, but from 4pm on-
wards the food is exquisite - the tenderest fillets of reindeer or elk, as well as Arctic char
and desserts such as 'blue cheese and pear marinated in cinnamon, walnuts in honey and
balsamico'. In short it's one of the region's finest eating experiences.
Kaffestugu Cafeteria SNACKS & TRADITIONAL

historic place offers a good range of coffee, pastries, snacks and light meals, as well as

but the food in general is enduringly popular. The atmosphere wavers between old Norwe-
gian tea room and informal cafeteria.

Sun) With old photos of Røros and traditional decor, you might be forgiven for imagining
this to be a bastion oftraditional cooking. But this being modern Norway,it'smostly about
pizza, and we recommend it especially for its pizza buffet from 2.30pm to 6.30pm from
Monday to Friday. Its outdoor tables have views up this historic street.
