Rail-Biking RAIL-BIKING

novelty value to taking a rail-tricycle (known as dressin or tricycles on bogies) for the
10km-long trip along the disused rail line between Lake Tinnsjø and Rjukan. It's only pos-
sible in summer and reservations should be made in advance.

Rjukan's town centre has a few places to stay, but there are more choices up in the Gaus-
tablikk area.

town centre's best choice, Rjukan Hytteby & Kro sits in a pretty spot on the river bank and
has carefully decorated and very well equipped huts that seek to emulate the early 20th-
century hydroelectric workers' cabins. The owner is exceptionally helpful. It's a pleasant
20-minute walk along the river bank to the town centre.

Apr; ) Around 45km west of Rjukan, this excellent mountain hotel promises
sweepingviews,hintsoftraditional Telemarkdecoration,anindoorswimmingpoolandan
excellent spa centre. It's booked out well in advance in winter (and is nearly double the
price) as it opens onto hundreds of kilometres of ski runs.
