Nkr1180; ) The former youth hostel is now privately owned but it remains an ex-
cellentdealwithmodernandcomfortable,ifplain,roomsandlovelywaterfrontapartments
that sleep up to four and have their own kitchens. Breakfast is included in room rates but
not if you're staying in an apartment. To get here leave Kragerø via the tunnel and follow
the signs for 1km into the village of Kalstadkilen.

) The rooms in the grand old Victoria all differ from one another and are the best in town.
Some even have little kitchenettes and others have balconies overlooking the wharf. It's
well run and has a rare bit of character.

the tourist office.
Getting There & Away
Trains from Oslo or Kristiansand stop at Neslandsvatn, where most are met by a bus to
Kragerø. Buses run up to five times daily to Oslo (Nkr300, 3½ hours) and Kristiansand
(Nkr250, 2½ hours), although you may have to change in Tangen on the E18.
Risør

Snaking around the base of cliffs and hills and overlooking a moody ocean, the ice-cream-
white town of Risør is one of southern Norway's prettiest. The focus of the town falls on
the U-shaped harbour full of colourful fishing boats and private yachts, and surrounded by
