Bicycle
The best place to rent bicycles is the Skiservice Sykkelutleie ( 22 13 95 00;
www.skiservice.no , in Norwegian; Tryvannsveien 2; per day Nkr350) in the Nord-
marka. To get there by public transport, take T-bane 1 towards Frognerseteren and get off
at the Voksenkollen station (the second-last stop).
One alternative if you don't plan on going too far is Oslo Citybike
( www.oslobysykkel.no ) , a network of bikes that cyclists can borrow for up to three hours
at a time from bicycle stands around the city. Access cards (Nkr80) can be purchased from
the tourist office and last for 24 hours, but bikes must be exchanged or returned to a rack
within three hours or you will lose your deposit (Nkr500 for losing the card and a whop-
ping Nkr3500 if you lose the bike!). They're convenient and well maintained. The system
is closed between midnight and 6am.

Boat
Ferries to the Oslofjord islands sail from Vippetangen Quay ( Click here ). For details of
ferries to Bygdøy, Click here .
Boats connect Oslo with Drøbak (boat 602; Nkr100, 1½ hours, once daily) and other Oslo-
fjord stops en route: Ildjernet, Langåra and Håøya (which is a holiday spot offering fine
swimming and camping). It departs from Aker Brygge pier, but exact departure times vary
depending on the day. Ask either at the pier or the tourist office.
Bus & Tram
Bus and tram lines lace the city and extend into the suburbs. There's no central local bus
station, but most converge at Jernbanetorget in front of Oslo S. Most westbound buses, in-
cluding those to Bygdøy and Vigeland Park, also stop immediately south of the National
Theatre.
