BYGDØY PENINSULA
The Bygdøy Peninsula ( Offline map ) holds some of Oslo's top attractions. You can rush
around all the sights in half a day, but allotting a few extra hours will be more rewarding.
AlthoughonlyminutesfromcentralOslo,Bygdøymaintainsitsruralcharacter.Theroy-
al family has a summer home here, as do many foreign ambassadors and Oslo's most well-
to-do residents.
Ferry No 91 ( 23 35 68 90) operates from early April to early October, making the
15-minute run to Bygdøy (adult/child Nkr40/20, free with the Oslo Pass) every 20 minutes
from 8am to 8.45pm in summer; earlier final departures the rest of the year. Note that the
above prices are for ticket purchase onboard the boat. If you buy your tickets from one of
the kiosks on the departure jetties the prices are lower (adult/child Nkr26/13, or a 24-hour
pass is Nkr70/35 per adult/child). Keep an eye out for the king's ship KS Norge on the ride
over, as well as the king's and queen's royal yacht clubs (Kongen and Dronningen) , which
face one another on either side of the Frognerkilen.
The ferries leave from Rådhusbrygge 3 (opposite the Rådhus) and stop first at Dronnin-
gen ferry terminal, from where it's a 10-minute walk to the Norwegian Folk Museum and
a 15-minute walk to the Viking Ship Museum. Beyond the ships it's a further 20 minutes'
walk to Bygdøynes, where the Kon-Tiki, Polarship Fram and Norwegian Maritime Mu-
seums are clustered; the route is signposted and makes a pleasant walk. Alternatively, the
ferry continues to Bygdøynes. You can also take bus 30 to the Folk Museum from Jern-
banetorget T-bane station, next to Oslo S.
