but express coastal services normally take only foot passengers and cyclists, as do the lake
steamers.
Highway ferries are subsidised and therefore aren't overly expensive (at least in a Nor-
wegian context), but long queues and delays are possible at popular crossings in summer.
They do, however, run deep into the night, especially in summer, and some run around the
clock,althoughdeparturesinthemiddleofthenightarelessfrequent.Detailsonschedules

by the Norwegian Tourist Board, or Rutebok for Norge . Tourist offices can also provide
timetables for local ferries.
DENMARK-NORWAY FERRIES
Ferry services between Denmark and Norway include the following. Fares are for
high season (mid-June to mid-August); at other times, fares can be half the high-sea-
son price but departures are much less frequent. Depending on the route, there are a
range of prices and accommodation types and, in most cases, you can transport your
car; check the company websites for the latest fares.
