of general industry furnaces is 50% (the current value of 35 to 53%),
that of petroleum heating furnaces 15% (78 to 90%), and that of
industrial boilers 6% (85 to 90%)

According to the results of calculations based on combustion calculation
of CO 2 reduction effect by introducing the results of development of high
performance industrial furnaces, the total amount of CO 2 emissions in
Japan is 320 million tons of converted carbon, in which industries annually
emit CO 2 in converted carbon weight of 49.1 million tons by using gas
and oil. Introduction of the results of the development of the high perfor-
mance industrial furnace project can reduce emission of 14.7 million tons
in converted carbon weight of CO 2 , which corresponds to 4.6%, or about
5%, of total emissions in Japan.
