for reducing energy consumption in all industrial furnaces. As an example of indus-
trial furnaces, consider a heating furnace for manufacturing steel materials; the
energy-saving counter-measures for it are shown in Figure 4.1 . The expected results
are listed in Table 4.2 . In this case, it must be noted that the basic units of consump-
tion mentioned in Figure 4.1 and Table 4.2 are different from each other. The 2.1

basis for Figure 4.1. Furthermore, the technical items for reducing energy consump-
tion are more or less dissimilar, as well.
From the above-cited Figure 4.1 and Table 4.2, the items of energy-saving
technologies for the heating furnace in the steel-making process, which were estab-
lished during the period from 1975 to 1985,
are
2
1.
Extending the furnace length
2.
Reinforcing the preheating of the air and gas through renewing and ratio-
nalization of the recuperator
3.
Increasing the thermal insulation (fiber lining in the furnace body and
multiple skid insulation)
4.
Decreasing the number of openings
5.
Controlling the lower air ratio (control of the oxygen)
6.
Heating by jet impinging
7.
Skid boiler, waste gas boiler
8.
Improving the heat pattern
9.
Extracting at a lower temperature
10.
Operations of direct rolling, hot charging
