by the two factors of the liquid axis direction at the outlet of nozzle and the velocity
component in the rotating direction. The divergent spray cone angle of 60˚ was
adopted in the present experiment.
In the figure, a hole for inserting the spray nozzle is arranged at the side of the
furnace. The reason for arranging this hole in such a way is to compare the flame
of liquid fuel in a cross-flowing state with results previously obtained for gaseous
fuel. The fuel spray flow is injected through this hole at a right angle to the diluted
airflow already preheated at a high temperature. However, in the case of the exper-
imental furnace, because the respective blower outputs of absorption and exhaust
are sometimes out of balance to produce a possible negative pressure, a great quantity
of air outside of the furnace might be sucked in through the hole during measurement.
