Summary
Capturing, measuring, and replaying a workload are techniques for using SQL Profiler to benchmark
performance improvements and establish a performance baseline. In this chapter, you have learned
the requirements and setup for each of these techniques. Three scenarios were used to demonstrate the
practical use of these techniques. The scenarios covered using the Profiler's replay feature to measure
overall performance gain for a workload, using workload replays on different server configurations to
benchmark performance differences, and using Profiler to send multiple workloads to a single server.
Even though the Profiler's Replay feature has limitations, such as high CPU consumption for replaying
large workloads, it is still a valuable, versatile, and powerful tool for many performance tuning and
baseline scenarios.
