Utsikten tower
If you find yourself at a loose end whilst waiting for buses or trains, one diversion is the
worthwhile short walk signed “Utsikten” from the main square, which leads up to a
wooden
tower
from where there are fantastic views out over the surrounding lakes and
forest towards the mountains which mark the border with Norway; it's around a 2km
uphill walk to the platform from the town centre.
ARRIVAL AND DEPARTURE STORUMAN
Just over an hour by the Inlandsbanan from Vilhelmina, Storuman is a
transport hub
for this part of southern Lapland.
From here,
buses
run northwest up the E12, skirting the Tärnafjällen mountains to Tärnaby and Hemavan, before
wriggling through to Mo-i-Rana in Norway; in the opposite direction, the road leads down to Umeå via Lycksele, from
where there are also train connections to Umeå.
By train
The
train station is on Järnvägsgatan, along with
the bus station.
