EATING
Ankis Bar & Pizzeria Storgatan 37 T 0942 100 68.
Substantial meaty meals for around 100kr, including pizzas
and a daily dagens rätt . The interior is a little plain and the
quality of the food is not great but that doesn't seem to
deter the locals. Mon-Fri 10am-8pm, Sat & Sun
10am-9pm.
Görans Konditori Parkvägen 2. A popular café serving
the locals for over thirty years and a favourite place for
swapping gossip. There's a weekday set lunch as well as a
number of open sandwiches and cakes - everything is
baked on the premises. Mon-Fri 7am-6pm, Sat
9am-4pm, Sun 11am-4pm.
Vilhelmina
The Inlandsvägen and the Wilderness Way meet up again in the pretty town of
VILHELMINA , 54km north of Dorotea. Once an important forestry centre, now a quiet,
unassuming little place with just one main street, it is named after the wife of King
Gustav IV Adolf, Fredrika Dorotea Vilhelmina (as is its southerly neighbour, Dorotea).
Church town
The principal attraction is the church town , nestling between Storgatan and
Ljusminnesgatan, whose thirty-odd wooden cottages date back to 1792 when the first
church was consecrated. It's since been restored, and the cottages can be rented out via
the tourist office (see below).
Museum
Storgatan 7 • Daily: June & Aug 10.30am-3pm; July 10.30am-6pm • 30kr
he museum here contains a mind-numbingly dull display of local history from
prehistoric times to the present day, featuring the likes of an old sledge, a mockup of a
former school classroom and a portrait of Queen Fredrika Dorotea V; give it a miss and
instead have a look inside the Sámi handicraft store , Risfjells Sameslöjd, opposite at
Storgatan 8 (Mon-Fri 10am-5.30pm, Sat & Sun 10am-4pm).
