to the museums and the main drag, this chain hotel is
predictably modern, unadventurous and rather plain. Its
summer and weekend prices, though, make this one

W centrichotel.se. An inexpensive, comfortable hotel,
500m south of the train station. The reception in this stylish
building from 1932 features a striking wall fresco by
Gothenburg artist Lars Gi llies depicting Norrköping's

Elite Grand Tyskatorget 2, T 011 36 41 00,
W grandhotel.elite.se. This upmarket hotel from the early
twentieth century is certainly the best in town, though it
doesn't come cheap. Bang in the centre, its rooms are a
stylish blend of classic and modern, and its staff go the extra
mile to create a home-from-home feel. 807kr/1317kr

designer rooms here are well equipped, full of the latest
furniture and decked out with loud, brash colours; some of
the rooms also have their own private jacu zzi. Tastefully

W sodrahotellet.se . A calm and pleasant alternative to the
chain hotels, set in a sympathetically renovated 1920s
house in a residential street formerly favoured by textile-
mill owners. There's also a sauna a nd a couple of exercise
bikes for guests' use. 750kr/925kr

and centrally located STF hostel is just a few hundred
metres behind the train station. There's a choice of double
rooms with private facilities as well as roo ms wi th shared
bathro oms or four-person dorms. Dorms 260kr , doubles

Excellent hostel within the safari park, offering five four-
bed and four si x-bed r ooms. Mid-June to mid-Aug only.

CAMPING
First Camp Kolmården Bodaviken T 011 39 82 50,
W firstcamp.se/kolmarden. Campsite 5km from
Kolmårdens Djurpark , with f our-bed cabins and t he
decent Ettans Café next door. Tents 140kr , cabins 995kr
EATING AND DRINKING
There's a fair selection of places to eat and drink in Norrköping, some of which double as bars. Although in Swedish
terms it's only a moderately sized town, the array of food on offer is unmatched for miles around. The nicest place to eat is
Knäppingsborg , an up-and-coming area of trendy restaurants and bars.

plate with trimmings (125kr) is another winner. Tues-Fri
5pm till late, Sat 1pm till late, Sun 1-9pm.
Kråkholmen Dalsgatan 15 T 011 15 50 30 . Outside the
Concert Hall; enter through the hall, or round the back. The
daily weekday 84kr lunch menu here features salads, light
dishes and home-cooked meals served against the
backdrop of the crashing waters of the Motala River. Mon-
Fri 11.30am-1.30pm.
Sing Thai Trädgårdsgatan 15 T 011 18 61 88. A good-
value Thai restaurant right next to the town hall, open for
both lunch (until 3pm) and dinner. The set lunch is 79kr, or
102kr lets you put three dishes together. Otherwise, in the
evening, mains are 82kr-105kr. Mon-Thurs 11am-10pm,
Fri 11am-11pm, Sat noon-11pm, Sun 1-10pm.
Trädgårn Prästgatan 1 T 011 10 07 40. This summer bar
and grill is very popular, especially on warm evenings when
seemingly the entire town is squeezed in here; the entrance
is beneath an iron sign marked “VIP Paraden”. There are
specials on food and drink 4-6pm; otherwise something
and chips goes for around 150kr. Mon-Sat 4pm-1am,
closed in bad weather.
CAFÉS AND RESTAURANTS
Bagarstugan Knäppingsborgsgatan 3 T 011 470 20
20. The best of the new restaurants springing up in the
Knäppingsborg area, this one serves delicious Italian treats
such as cannelloni and unusual foccacia pizzas for around
100kr. The cheese platter at 95kr is also great value. Mon-
Wed 7.30am-8pm, Thurs-Sat 7.30am-10pm.
Café Kuriosa Hörngatan 6 T 011 10 36 70. A super,
central old-fashioned café with a little garden, serving
home-made cakes, savoury pies and ice cream. Quiche and
salad costs 48kr. Try the fragrant Kuriosa tea, scented with
apricots and vanilla. Mon-Thurs 10am-7pm, Fri
10am-6pm, Sat 10am-4pm.
Fisk Magasinet Skolgatan 1 T 011 13 45 60. Cosy and
snug fish restaurant with an entire wall decorated with
pictures of tropical fish. Mains, such as poached halibut with
horseradish, go for 185-320kr. The herring and crispbread
plate at 120kr is good value and very tasty. Mon-Fri
11.30am-2pm & 5pm till late, Sat noon till late.
Källaren Bacchus Gamlatorget 4 T 011 10 07 40. The
oldest restaurant in town, housed in a vaulted cellar from
the mid-eighteenth century, this fantastic, atmospheric
restaurant serves light eats and warm grills - try the fillet
