has remarkable weekend and summer discounts on its
sumptuous bedrooms and wonderful bathrooms done

extremely attractive suites and rooms, especially on the top
floor of the annexe. Said to be haunted by the ghost of a

hotel on the main drag is personally decorated in line with
the owner's interests - refreshingly different for a chain
hotel. Rooms are stylish and airy, making this a great

newly opened hotel combines apartments with kitchenette
(some have their own sauna, too), regular double rooms
and simpler budget youth hostel-style accommodation,
though still with private facilities. D ecor is modern and

the centre at Gustavsvik. On site there's also a large open-
air swimming complex as well as well-appointed cabins to
rent. Open m id-April to early Nov; cabins open year-round.

EATING, DRINKING AND NIGHTLIFE
the train tracks from the rest of town, this long-standing
Danish restaurant serves filling Danish smørrebrød (open
sandwiches; from 45kr), but also has a range of meat
dishes, including steaks, at 229kr. Mon-Thurs 5pm till
late, Fri 5pm-midnight, Sat 4pm-midnight.
Efesos Rudbecksgatan 28 T 019 611 66 15. Renowned
for its generous portions of tasty Greek fare, especially
kebabs (129-169kr) and steaks (around 229kr). The
interior here is plain and simple but that doesn't put the
crowds off. Be sure to reserve a table as it's always busy.
Mon-Thurs 4-11pm, Fri 4pm-midnight, Sat noon-
midnight, Sun noon-10pm.
Saigon Rudbecksgatan 18 T 019 10 08 75. This stylish
Asian restaurant is boldly decorated in greens and oranges
and the food is equally sophisticated: the tiger prawns with
Thai basil, pad thai and red curry are all winners. Mains
around 100kr. Daily 11am-9pm.
Ì Wobbler Kyrkogatan 2 T 019 10 07 40. Classic
Swedish cooking with a modern twist at this bright and
airy place with tiled floor and a separate tapas lounge.
Elaborate mains (from 159kr) such as roast Hjälmaren
zander with pepper and charlotte vinaigrette (229kr), and
tapas plates too (175kr). Mon-Sat 11am-2.30pm &
5pm-midnight, Sun 1-10pm.
CAFÉS AND RESTAURANTS
A mano Stallbacken T 019 32 33 70. Off Kungsgatan in a
quiet courtyard, this style-conscious Italian place with
small square tables facing a long leather bench serves
classic Tuscan-inspired mains for around 280kr. Try the
grilled monkfish with risotto or a three-course set dinner
for 435kr. Mon-Sat 6pm till late.
Ågatan 3 Bar & Matsal Ågatan 3 T 019 10 40 19. Just
off Drottninggatan, a smart little restaurant with a heavy
wooden interior and brown leather chairs creating a
romantic atmosphere. It serves sophisticated, modern
Swedish cuisine, for example, local veal or wild duck. Three
courses cost 449kr. Mon-Sat 6pm till late.
Ì Bara Vara Köpmangatan 24 T 019 10 78 32. This
justifiably popular place is where those in the know come
for excellent cakes, muffins, ice cream, a good range of
speciality coffees and a few light lunch dishes such as
lasagne, quiches and salads. Mon-Fri 10am-8pm, Sat
10am-6pm, Sun noon-6pm.
Ì Brasserie Rendezvous Drottninggatan 38 T 019
10 30 80. Örebro's answer to a Parisian bistro with French
posters on the walls and chi-chi red chairs, plus a menu
consisting of Gallic classics such as steak frites (195kr), fillet
mignon (275kr) and crème brûlée (85kr). There's a small
outdoor terrace in summer. Mon-Thurs 11.30am-2pm &
5pm till late, Fri 11.30am till late, Sat noon till late.
