of gold coins is also displayed, but it's the incredibly preserved
clothing
- hats, jackets,
buckled leather shoes and even silk bows and cufflinks - which bring this exceptional
show to life. Check out, too, the remarkable twelve pewter flasks dating from the
mid-1600s which, when salvaged, still contained their original barley-based
akvavit
with an alcohol content of 41.1 percent. The wreck site, the size of half a football pitch,
is still being explored and yields around one thousand items each year.

Kalmar's train station is on Stationsgatan, at the
southern end of the new town on the island of
Kvarnholmen. Change at Emmaboda for trains to
Kristianstad.
