NIGHTLIFE AND ENTERTAINMENT
Gone are the days when the only entertainment in Malmö was watching rich drunks become poor drunks at the blackjack
table in the Centralstation bar. Nowadays there are some decent live-music venues and discos , most of which are
cheaper to get into than their other European counterparts. For drinking , Lilla torg is where Malmöites and tourists alike
head in the evenings. The square buzzes with activity, as the smell of beer wafts between the old, beamed houses, and
music and chatter fill the air. With a largely 20- and 30-something crowd, the atmosphere is like that of a summer carnival.

THE MALMÖ FESTIVAL
Every August Malmö plays host to the annual Malmöfestivalen ( W malmofestivalen.se), one
of the biggest in Sweden. Sprawling across the city from the parks around Malmöhus to
Stortorget and Gustav Adolfs torg, the festival's grand opening, always on a Friday, is marked
by a giant crayfish party in Stortorget, when thousands of people bring their own crayfish and
akvavit to sing and dance the night away. Over the eight days, there's free music and
entertainment across the city. World food is dished up from a multitude of stalls: Pakistani,
Somali and Bosnian dishes alongside more traditional elk kebabs and Swedish pancakes.
