Hallands Väderö
Boats April-Oct; departures vary by month, though there's generally a boat every 1-2hr • 100kr return • Detailed timetable at

The main reason to venture to Torekov is to take one of the old fishing boats which
regularly leave from its little harbour for the island nature reserve of HALLANDS
VÄDERÖ. The island is a scenic mix of trees and bare rocks with isolated fishermen's
cottages dotted around its edges, while the skies above are filled with countless birds
- gulls, eiders, guillemots and cormorants.

Seal safaris
Late June to early Aug Thurs only 6pm • 200kr • T 0431 36 34 940, W vaderotraiken.se
One particularly beautiful spot on Hallands Väderö is at its southernmost tip, where
weather-smoothed islets stand out amid the tranquil turquoise waters. If you're lucky,
you may be able to make out the colony of seals living on the furthest rocks; there are
organized “ seal safaris ” there.
English graveyard
On the south of Hallands Väderö is the English graveyard , surrounded by mossy,
dry-stone walls. It holds the remains of English sailors who were killed here in 1809,
when the British fleet was stationed on the island in order to bombard Copenhagen
during the Napoleonic Wars. Torekov church would not allow them to be buried on its
soil as the sailors' faith was, strangely, considered unknown.
GETTING AROUND THE BJÄRE PENINSULA
By bus Bus #525 runs through the centre of the peninsula
from Båstad to Torekov, and stops at the small hamlets of

By bike The well-known Skåneleden walking trail runs
around the entire perimeter of the peninsula and makes
for a great bicycle ride. Bike rental is available in Båstad

Helsingborg
Long gone are the days when the locals of HELSINGBORG joked that the most rewarding
sight here was Helsingør, the Danish town whose castle - Hamlet's celebrated Elsinore
(Kronoborg castle) - is visible, just 4km across the Öresund strait. Bright and pleasing,
Helsingborg has a tremendous sense of buoyancy. With its beautifully developed harbour
area, an explosion of stylish bars, great cafés and restaurants among the warren of cobbled
streets, plus an excellent museum , it is one of the best town bases Sweden has to offer.
Brief history
In the past, the links between Helsingborg and Copenhagen were less convivial than
they are now. After the Danes fortified the town in the eleventh century, the Swedes
