oldest of the traditional nightclubs in town, playing the
latest radio hits as well as classic rock tracks. Valand boasts

A suave spot where confident 20- and 30-somethings enjoy
a mellow atmosphere. It's also a popular place to eat before

Though rather unappealing from the outside, this
rambling place covers one square kilometre and boasts a
number of different dancefloors with everything from
disco and hip-hop to soul and R&B. Occasional live music.

One of the city's liveliest haunts, this hip club offers five
bars, a casino, a disco playing house and party favourites
ENTERTAINMENT
Gothenburg's large student community means there are plenty of local live bands which tend to play in a cluster of bars
in the city centre. The best nights to catch a live performance are Friday and Saturday. Classical music concerts are held
regularly in the Konserthuset, Götaplatsen ( T 031 726 53 90, W gso.se), and occasionally at Stadsteatern, Götaplatsen

p.112. Drawing the crowds since 1977, this club not only
puts on trad and Dixieland jazz, and swing, but has
branched out into indie, garage rock, synth and electronica.

Nefertiti Hvitfeldtsplatsen 6 T 031 711 15 33,
W nefertiti.se; map p.109. The premier place for jazz in
Gothenburg with modern jazz, big-band and folk music as
well as reggae, blues and soul. Events are advertised
online. Times vary.
Sticky Fingers Kaserntorget 7 T 031 701 07 17; map
p.109. This rock club first opened its doors in the late 1980s
CINEMA
There are plenty of cinemas around the city, and English-
language films (which make up the majority of what's shown)
are always subtitled in Swedish, never dubbed. The most
central complexes are Bio Palatset, Kungstorget 2 ( T 031 774
22 90), and Filmstaden Bergakungen, at Skånegatan 16B
