Against a backdrop of velvet drapes and fresh flowers,
diners are teased with a list of ingredients: cod, lamb, wild
garlic, almonds, for example, and the results are

away down a side street opposite the Nils Ericsson Terminalen
and beside the Scandic Hotel . Authentically tasty curries (from
79kr), and a good range of vegetarian options such as paneer

restaurant with live DJs playing salsa sounds at weekends. Try
the leg of lamb braised in chilli and tequila served with salsa

p.112. An excellent choice for modern Swedish food with a
hint of the Mediterranean, served amid airy surrounds and
chandeliers. Mains such as brawn of rabbit with pearl
barley, cucumber and pickled turnip, are around the 275kr

Established in 1975, this is the best Chinese in town with
dependable mains (110kr) like beef with bamboo shoots
and a good number of vegetarian dishes, including stir-
fried vegetables with glass noodles in satay sauce for
110kr. Mon-Fri 3-10pm, Sat noon-10pm, Sun
noon-9pm.

map p.112. Swedish home cooking served in a beautifully
restored house with wall panelling and chandeliers, or on
the open-air terrace. Exceptional value with mains in the
range of 100-239kr, including a herring platter, fish gratin,
meatballs and pan-fried pork with onions and potatoes.

Small and cosy fish and shellfish restaurant with a superb
range of food. Highlights include fresh pasta with marinated
shellfish (149kr) and a smoked and marinated salmon

This elegant restaurant with a striking blue interior is the
place to sample moderately priced traditional local fare
(mains 139-225kr) such as meatballs with lingonberries or
herring with boiled egg and mashed potoato. Mon-Fri

p.112. The oldest vegetarian restaurant in Gothenburg
serving well-prepared veggie and vegan delights: the set
dish of the day including the salad buffet costs 80kr. The
salad buffet alone is an excellent-value 60kr. Mon-Thurs
11.30am-11pm, Fri 11.30am-midnight, Sat 1pm-
midnight, Sun 2-8pm.

p.112. Not only is the Thai food at this agreeable
neighbourhood place genuinely tasty and spicy, the prices are
also quite exceptional: any dish with chicken is just 75kr, add
10kr for beef or prawns. Mon 11am-2pm, Tues-Fri
11am-8.30pm, Sat 1-8.30pm, Sun 2-8pm.

Very fine French-style gourmet restaurant, whose name
refers to the fat percentage of its renowned cheese, also
sold in the shop near the entrance. Mains around 250kr
such as the delicious grilled halibut with truffle purée.

superb Provencal-style bistro serving French classics:
escargots (from 94kr), moules marseillaises (135kr) and
frogs' legs in pernod (135kr). A set three-course menu costs
340kr, or there's the choice of a salad, pizza and dessert for

cool, elegant white-painted basement is a good bet for
tasty pasta (135-155kr), as well as Mediterranean meat
and fish dishes such as roast lamb with grilled aubergine

popular brasserie decked out with black-and-white
photographs of Gothenburgers at play, serving locally sourced
tapas such as mackerel in tomato sauce, home-made sausage
and a selection of charcuterie. A three-course menu goes for
