In-Depth Information
Inevitably the exchange rate was less favourable than that obtained later in Damascus.
As a final comment on Jordan, I considered that there were two primary sites worth seeing.
The first is Wadi Rum - purely from a scenic perspective and the second is Petra because
of its antiquity and uniqueness. Jerash was also worth a visit, although it was not of the
same standing as the other two.
The side visit to Salt was worthwhile, because of what we encountered in terms of people
and the access they provided to different elements of the town. Shobak Castle was also
noteworthy as our first citadel, but we encountered much better later on.
Amman has little in terms of unique sites. Aqaba was mediocre as was Dana Reserve,
Madaba and Mt Nebo. The Dead Sea was a curiosity and little else. I am sure there are
other sites we didn't see that could be worthwhile; however, they are for another time.
