For me the experience was all over in ten minutes. The water left an uncomfortable oily
feeling on the skin and you could see traces of an oily substance floating on the water. I
suspect it was the sun-screen that practically everybody was wearing. Some of it would in-
evitably wash off and it was certainly not going to sink or break down in the salty water.
I couldn't get out soon enough and get myself showered with fresh water and have a swim
in the freshwater pool attached to the hotel. It was a welcome relief.
But there was another benefit. Before returning to Amman, we had the luncheon smorgas-
bord at the hotel. We didn't require much encouragement to tuck in and eat until we were
bursting.
