In-Depth Information
The jeeps headed into the desert. It was a hot, bumpy ride across hard rocky surfaces, which
gave over to an increasing amount of red sand. Arriving at a narrow canyon we were given
a talk on the petroglyphs within the canyon and advised that those on the left were the real
thing and those on the right were fakes. Not that they looked terribly different, but it high-
lighted the practice in some of these areas for the locals to try and contrive petroglyphs,
simply to attract business.
Moving on we came to a large sandhill that butted up against a rocky outcrop. If you
climbed the sandhill you could get to the top of the outcrop and see the landscape from a
good vantage point.
I managed to get half-way up but the loose sand became a little too much for my dodgy
knees.
Wadi Rum, the so-called Seven Pillars of Wisdom.
