In-Depth Information
There were numerous Bedouin tents in the area, with Bedouins working in the widespread
market gardens and cotton fields and, on a number of occasions, we saw open trucks full
of young women going off to one field or another.
The most common motor vehicles used in the region were a unique design. They func-
tioned as a utility or pick-up, were blocky in shape, colourful and profusely decorated with
extra lights and mirrors. Apparently they are called Taktukas and made in Syria by Hyun-
dai.
The signs in this area are all in Arabic without any English. This compares with other areas,
where English is being used in tandem with Arabic or in lieu of Arabic.
