New and Emerging Research in Agricultural,
Forestry, and Fishing Safety and Health
The committee to review the National Institute for Occupational Safety and
Health (NIOSH) Agriculture, Forestry, and Fishing Research Program (AFF Pro-
gram) was charged with assessing the program's targeting of new research in oc-
cupational safety and health most relevant to future improvements in workplace
protection. The committee was also asked to identify emerging issues important
for NIOSH and the program. In keeping with the guidance of the Framework
Document, this chapter provides the committee's suggestions based on expertise
of individual members rather than as a product of a formal process to explore and
synthesize recommendations that could be developed through a comprehensive
review of the field.
